My Lost Brain Cells Have Returned

In recent posts I've complained very loudly about the weather here. What, you don't remember this post?

Anyway, this week has been so nice. Remember that "nice" is totally subjective. What is nice for one, may be miserable for another. With that in mind, I'll tell you that the temperature has been in the high 20s for the past 4 days. I wish I could say that it was 26 degrees Celsius, but sadly, we won't see temperatures like that until the end of June.

Right. So, it was 26 degrees Fahrenheit yesterday when I went to pick up Makayla from preschool. This is a vast improvement from the negative temperatures of last week.

As I was driving, I thought back to my high school days. The thing that I remembered was the shorts rule in my house. In the Spring, I was so eager to break out the shorts and enjoy the "warm" weather. But apparently I had no brain as a teenager. Imagine that. So my mom had to make the rule that we couldn't wear shorts until it was 25 degrees outside.

25 degrees!!

So although I've enjoyed walking outside and not having my extremeties frozen by the time I've walked 100 feet to my car, I don't think that 25 degrees is warm enough to wear shorts.

So thank you, mother, for watching out for me when I was too foolish to watch out for myself.

My shorts (or capris, rather) will stay safely tucked away in the back of my closet until June when the weather warrants such attire.

Kasey just came home and told me it's in the 40s right now!! We are so going out for ice cream. I'm not sure I can take this heat any longer. (Is the sarcasm thick enough for you?)

A Post Full of Pictures

I haven't posted pictures in quite some time. Mostly it's because I've been too lazy to empty my card onto my computer. Well, today I finally did it. So here is a not-so-quick catch up from January and February. Starting with the most recent....

Today Makayla's class exchanged valentines. Little Wyatt got her a special valentine: this cute little puppy. Makayla loves that puppy and has named it Connie, after the lady at the movie store. Don't ask!

Last Sunday, I got up early to get the girls ready for church. On a whim, I decided to try Ellie's hair in pigtails. Success!! What is it about little girls and pigtails that I love so much? I don't know, but she sure looked cute!

This picture is so sad to me. Ellie fell and hit her head on the corner of the fridge. She immediately got a goose egg and a huge bruise. This picture does not do the injury justice. It looked so much worse in person. Look at her sad, puffy, red eyes. :(
I've never let Makayla bake with me before. Yeah, I know, I'm a horrible mom. Blah, blah, blah. But I was inspired by Mandy's post about her boy making muffins. So I broke out the mixer and ingredients and let Makayla help me make some cookies for her daddy.

We mixed them up, and I let Makayla scoop them onto the cookie sheet.

Then I remembered that I had some left over sugar cookie dough in the fridge. So I let her roll out the dough for those.

Speaking of baking, when I made my first apple pie the first week of January, I burned it. My second attempt was a week later. See how pretty it turned out? It tasted pretty darn good too. It only lasted 24 hours at my house. And that's because we were asleep for 8 of those 24 hours!

It's been 3 years, 8 months, and 3 weeks since I first saw those blue eyes. I still can't get over how much I love them!

I love this super-cute wrap dress that Ellie got for Christmas. Purple is her color!

One morning I heard a crash in the kitchen. I went in to see Ellie eating cereal by handfuls. Apparently the girl was hungry.

Pet Peaves

I was greatly annoyed by two things this morning. That led me to think of my other pet peaves. I sat down to make a list, and here it is.

1. Mismatched socks. Both when people wear them or when I end up with mismatched socks while doing laundry.

2. Poor grammar. I'm even annoyed at myself when I don't know the correct usage or punctuation.

3. Vacuum lines on the carpet. I'm not sure why this bothers me so much, but it does.

4. Even worse than vacuum lines--foot prints on the carpet that I just vacuumed. I'm really glad that my current carpet doesn't show either.

5. People who take up two parking spots. Grrr!

6. Bathroom towels that hang unevenly. I tried to teach Kasey how to hang his towel nicely when he's done with it. But we eventually came to the conclusion that since it bothers me and not him, I should just straighten it myself. That works.

7. People who say warsh instead of wash. There is no "R" in wash!

8. People who talk during the movie at the theatre. Only at the theatre does this bother me. For some reason when I'm watching a movie at home, it doesn't annoy me. Hmmm.

I'm sure I have other pet peaves, but these are the only ones that I can think of right now.

Today's Topic: Toilet Seats

Kasey was looking at one of his favorite gun websites today. He started laughing, and I asked him what was so funny. He said that the same people who make the grip for his gun also make toilet seats.

WHAT??

He showed me the link to UltraTouch Comfort Touch Toilet Seats. I'm not sure what made me laugh more: the electrically heated toilet seat or the fact that you can detach it and toss it in the dishwasher. Eww!

Memories

Tonight I was reading through some things I've written about my girls. I came across this entry that made me laugh. It's dated September 28, 2007.

This morning I was changing Ellie's diaper. Talking to Ellie I said, "Oh you're
not poopy. Just wet." At that moment Makayla threw her arms in the air and said,
"It's a miracle!"

I'm so glad that I thought to write it down. Now 4 months later, I was able to relive that moment and smile about it. I want to be better about writing stuff like this down. And I hope in 10 or 15 years when I share this with Makayla, she will laugh also and be grateful that I took a few minutes to write down these precious moments in our lives.

Little Chef

Any of you seen Ratatouille by Disney Pixar? We got the DVD for Christmas for the girls. They love it. Especially Makayla. Since seeing the movie, she has taken to "helping" me in the kitchen. She makes comments like "Needs salt" and "Saffron would make this!"

Tonight Makayla came in the kitchen, pulled a chair up to the stove and started stirring the ingredients in the different pans. Then, in true Remy fashion, she started darting around the kitchen, grabbing her imaginary ingredients, and tossing them in the pan.

This is the sort of behavior Makayla was exhibiting. It was really quite funny!

Enough With This Weather Already!

We had a really fun weekend planned. First up, a visit to the accountant. Now, a lot people don't think that's very fun. But since I was a bookkeeping major in college, I think going to see our accountant is great! Plus it usually means a big, fat check in my pocket, or at least a nice deposit in my bank account 10 to 14 days later.

Then, baking & frosting cookies with my mom for the girls. Makayla was so excited to help! And Ellie loves to lick the frosting off all the cookies before casually tossing them aside. Crazy Girl!

Laundry. Most people I know don't get excited about doing laundry. But since I normally have to pay to do my laundry, I get pretty dang happy, almost giddy, at the thought of doing 4 batches of laundry for free.

Tomorrow we were going to meet up with my friend, Veronica, and her family to go sledding.

After sledding, some shopping at Costco and Target. I love those 2 stores!

We got up this morning and packed up our car for the weekend. About 20 miles down the interstate, we came to a halt. Trucks and cars were lined up with no signs of moving. We called the road report and found out that the interstate was closed about 13 miles ahead of us. We reasoned that since our exit was only about 1/2 mile from where we were, it would be alright for us to drive along the shoulder to our exit. (I hope no cops are reading this entry. Oops!)

After we exited to head for my mom's house, about 130 miles away, the roads really took a turn for the worse. The wind was blowing and the road was solid ice. Kasey lost control of the car a couple times, so I made him turn around and go home. It took us 2 hours to make a 40 mile trip.

We were pretty bummed about our canceled trip. So Kasey took me on a date. I don't even remember the last time we went on a real date. Oh wait! Yes I do. It was to the movie I Am Legend. Then I had nightmares for a week!

Anyway, he took me to a movie tonight. We saw August Rush. I know it's been out for a while, but we rarely go out anymore, so we're behind on our movies. I absolutely loved it! What a great family movie.

Okay, so I thought I had more to say about it than that. Just go watch it. Or wait until is comes out on DVD and rent it from Red Box. It's much cheaper that way.

Getting back to the reason I started this post, I'm so sick of this horrible weather! I'm frustrated that Kasey took a day off of work so that we could be stranded at home. But I did get a date out of it, so I shouldn't complain too much.
